Vocal Resonance Meditation Workshop

A unique Buddhist-based meditation workshop. It is Inspired by Ajikan, Asokukan, and Gachirin-kan Practices, Led by a Japanese Shingon Monk

For this program, these methods have been thoughtfully rearranged into an accessible, American-style seated format that can be practiced comfortably at a table. The workshop is non-religious, beginner-friendly, and focuses on relaxation, breath awareness, and sound resonance for overall well-being.

Additionally, we introduce a unique meditation method using familiar objects, incorporating elements of grief care and end-of-life care.
In this workshop, these principles are blended into a simple, chair-based method suited for all ages. Participants use breath, gentle vocal resonance, and guided imagery to release tension and cultivate mindfulness.

No religious elements, chanting, or doctrinal instruction are included—this is a wellness-centered, secular adaptation designed to help participants relax and refocus.

Recommended for:

  • Those who want to relax in their busy daily life
  • Those who wish to reduce stress and anxiety
  • Those who have trouble sleeping or falling asleep
  • Those grieving the loss of a loved one
  • Those interested in Buddhist meditation

JIOSTL is also launching a community-based Guru-Re program.

What is Guru-Re?

The word "Mottainai" expresses the Japanese value of cherishing nature and things. The closest expressions in English might be "waste not want not" or "make the most of everything." In resource-scarce Japan, it has been considered a virtue to use things carefully and eliminate waste. This concept is important in modern society as well, and it is attracting worldwide attention for environmental issues and the realization of a sustainable society.

In recent years, an initiative called "gururi" has become popular in addition to "mottainai."
Gururi is an initiative that contributes to reducing waste and effectively using resources by passing on unwanted items to people who need them. However, it is not just about giving things away; the good old system of bartering items that are surplus to your needs has been revived. The benefits of gurure are that it not only reduces the amount of waste because items that would have been discarded are reused, but it also makes it easier to obtain items that are difficult to buy with cash by exchanging them for unwanted items that you have on hand, thereby further reducing resource consumption. It also creates exchanges with local people and leads to the revitalization of the community.
